Oreste Costa (Florence, 1851–1901) Siena - Street near San Domenico, oil on wooden panel, the sole work measures 19.5 x 13.5 cm. Magnificent impression of a Siena street near San Domenico, in excellent condition and with a contemporary frame. The photo that includes the contemporary guilloché frame and glass presents the work as it will reach the buyer, appearing shaded by the glass. The other photos are taken without glass and show the work in its reality. Oreste Costa was born in Florence, in the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and was trained under Antonio Ciseri. Among his works was The Last Efforts. His brother Antonio was also a painter. He often exhibited in England, and one of his paintings, a genre scene with elderly peasants drinking, is in the Hillwood Museum. Excellent market values.
