Opinel N°08 Lepre – Foldable knife engraved – Oak wood – Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel – France Description Up for auction is an elegant Opinel N°08 Lepre, one of the most fascinating versions of the iconic French knife, featuring a refined laser engraving depicting a hare immersed in a mountainous landscape on the oak wood handle. The N°08 is the most versatile model in the historic Opinel collection: thanks to its balanced size and light weight, it is perfect for daily use, excursions, camping, trekking, mushroom picking, picnics, and convivial moments. The 8.5 cm blade is made of European-origin Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel, hardened to 55-57 HRC, an alloy developed to offer an excellent balance between cutting ability, edge durability, and corrosion resistance. Its high wear resistance allows the blade to retain its edge over time even after regular use on demanding materials, while stainless steel requires minimal maintenance under normal use conditions. The handle, 10.9 cm long, is made from premium French oak wood, a hard and durable species naturally rich in tannins that make it particularly protected against insects and fungi. The protective varnish finish preserves the wood from moisture and dirt, keeping its beauty unchanged over time. The knife features the famous Virobloc safety ring, invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel and present on all models from N°06 onward. Made of stainless steel, it consists of a fixed part and a rotating part that allows locking the blade both in the open position for safer use and in the closed position, ensuring security during transport. The piece is supplied with the original Opinel packaging, as visible in the photographs.
