ow available at auction Presented for collectors of distinctive and historically significant sports watches, this Omega Seamaster 120m Jacques Mayol Limited Edition is a captivating tribute to the legendary free-diver. Produced in a limited run of 2500 pieces, this specific model stands out with its mesmerizing deep green dial, adorned with a repeating dolphin motif that reflects Mayol’s profound connection to the ocean. Sized at an elegant 26mm, it perfectly balances robust dive-watch heritage with refined, everyday wearability, making it a highly compelling acquisition for those who appreciate rare variations of classic Omega tool watches. Brand: Omega Model: Seamaster 120m Jacques Mayol Reference Number: 596.1514 Serial Number: 56017255 Movement: Quartz Caliber 1424 Dial: Deep green repeating dolphin motif with applied indices, showing surface oxidation on the hands and localized aging to the luminous plots. Case Size: 26 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Stainless Steel Production Year: 1998 Condition: Good vintage condition with honest signs of daily wear and beautifully preserved commemorative caseback engravings. Dial and Hands The dial is defined by its captivating deep green hue, intricately stamped with a repeating dolphin motif that creates a dynamic visual texture depending on the angle of the light. Applied silver-tone faceted indices provide excellent legibility, complemented by an applied Omega logo and crisp silver printing for the "Seamaster 120 m" designation. A neatly framed date aperture is positioned at three o'clock. Careful visual inspection reveals honest vintage aging; while the primary green dial surface remains clean and highly attractive, the skeletonized hands exhibit noticeable surface oxidation and textural aging. Furthermore, the small luminous dots positioned at the outer edge of the hour markers show mild spotting and degradation, presenting a stark white-grey tone consistent with the passage of time. Case and Crystal The 26mm stainless steel case features a classic sports profile with gracefully sweeping lugs and robust crown guards protecting the Omega-signed fluted crown. The watch is fitted with a polished smooth bezel that, alongside the case flanks, displays moderate surface scratches and honest wear marks indicative of regular use. The transitions between the brushed and polished surfaces remain entirely discernible. The flat crystal remains clean and clear, offering an unobstructed view of the vibrant dial beneath. Turning the watch over reveals a beautifully preserved commemorative caseback, featuring a deep-relief Seamaster hippocampus emblem surrounded by a stylized wave pattern and the distinct limited edition engraving denoting this piece as number 1588 of 2500. Movement Inside beats the Omega Caliber 1424, a highly reliable Swiss-made quartz movement. Close inspection of the movement reveals crisp factory engravings, clearly noting its 9-jewel construction and Omega V8 designation. The movement area presents cleanly, maintaining the practical and precise timekeeping architecture expected from Omega's late-1990s quartz production. Strap The watch is fitted with its original integrated-style stainless steel bracelet, bearing the clasp reference 6502/830 and matching 830 stamps on the solid endlinks. The bracelet features a sophisticated design with brushed primary links contrasted by polished intermediate accents. The folding clasp is secured and highlighted by a handsome gold-tone applied Omega logo inlay. The bracelet exhibits surface scratches and scuffs consistent with the wear found on the case. Condition This timepiece is presented in good vintage condition. It exhibits clear, honest signs of wear throughout the case and bracelet, primarily in the form of surface scratches on the polished bezel and clasp. The dial remains visually striking, though collectors should note the visible oxidation on the hands and the aging of the luminous plots. The limited edition engravings on the caseback remain deep and exceptionally crisp. Dimensions Case Size: 26 mm Wrist Size: 16.5 cm Remarks This limited edition Seamaster 120m represents a wonderful intersection of horology and oceanic exploration. The unique green dolphin dial elevates it far beyond a standard production model, offering an engaging aesthetic that is rarely seen in the modern vintage market. It is a charismatic and highly wearable piece of Omega's late-nineties catalog. History Jacques Mayol was a world-renowned free-diver and the first man to descend to 100 meters on a single breath, a feat that cemented his legacy and inspired the cult-classic film The Big Blue. Mayol had a deep, philosophical connection to the sea and famously wore Omega Seamaster watches during his record-breaking dives. In honor of this enduring partnership, Omega released a series of limited edition Seamaster models dedicated to him. These special editions are instantly recognizable by their unique dials featuring dolphins, an animal Mayol deeply respected and studied, making these watches highly sought after by diving enthusiasts and Omega collectors alike.
