Presented for auction by Second Vintage This Omega Constellation captures attention immediately through its sought-after double-signed "Meister" pie-pan dial, adding a distinct layer of collectability to a celebrated design. Powered by the chronometer-certified caliber 551 and featuring the observatory medallion on its caseback, this circa 1960 example represents a fascinating piece of mid-century horology with genuine vintage character. Brand: Omega Model: Constellation Reference Number: 14381 8 SC Serial Number: 17750214 Movement: Automatic chronometer, caliber 551, 24 jewels Dial: Silver/white pie-pan, double-signed Meister Case Size: 34 mm (excluding the crown) Case Material: Gold-tone, stainless steel caseback Production Year: Circa 1960 Condition: Good vintage condition. Timegrapher: +2+4s/day, performing remarkably well. Dial and Hands The classic silver and white pie-pan dial is beautifully configured with applied gold-tone indices and features the sought-after double signature, proudly displaying "Meister" just above the Constellation branding. The dial print remains clear and legible, while the surface exhibits an attractive vintage patina alongside visible spotting, most notably near the three o'clock position. The accompanying gold-tone dauphine hands display visible oxidation and spotting that harmonize with the dial's aged character, and the sweep seconds hand shows minor wear. Case and Crystal The case features a gold-tone top paired with a stainless steel caseback, presenting honest wear consistent with its age. The lugs retain a generally defined shape while showing signs of wear, and moderate scratches alongside handling marks are visible across the case flanks. A smooth gold-tone bezel frames the dial, displaying light scratches that match the overall wear of the case. The watch is fitted with a scalloped crown signed with the Omega logo. Turning the watch over reveals the intact observatory medallion on the caseback, complete with its prominently visible stars. A domed acrylic crystal protects the dial, remaining clear and free of major scratches or cracks to provide an excellent view of the display. Movement Inside beats the chronometer-certified caliber 551 automatic movement, a second-generation full-rotor caliber recognized for its refined construction. The mechanism displays Omega's signature copper-colored finishing and features engravings confirming adjustment to five positions and temperature, along with its 24-jewel count and matching serial number. While there are visible scratches on the rotor and some bridges alongside general signs of handling and age, there is no severe corrosion present. The timegrapher recorded a rate of +2+4s/day. Exhibiting remarkable accuracy and consistency, performing brilliantly for a vintage timepiece. Strap The watch is fitted with a complementary brown leather strap detailed with contrast stitching. The strap shows light wear and pairs handsomely with the gold-tone case finish. Condition Good vintage condition. The watch presents an attractive, aged aesthetic with honest wear to the gold-tone case and stainless steel caseback, including moderate scratches and handling marks. The double-signed dial and dauphine hands display visible spotting, oxidation, and an appealing vintage patina, while the crystal remains clear. Supported by the recorded timegrapher result, the caliber 551 movement is performing exceptionally well. Dimensions The case measures 34 mm in diameter (excluding the crown). Remarks This Constellation stands out immediately due to its desirable double-signed Meister pie-pan dial. Combined with the respected caliber 551 chronometer movement and the intact observatory medallion on the caseback, it offers a compelling opportunity for collectors of mid-century horology. History The Omega Constellation has long been celebrated as a flagship chronometer line for the brand. During the mid-twentieth century, prominent retailers occasionally requested their own names be printed on the dials of the watches they sold, adding a unique regional fingerprint to global models. Meister, a prestigious Zurich-based retailer, partnered with Omega to offer such double-signed pieces, which have since become collector favourites. This particular reference 14381 utilizes the Caliber 551, a second-generation full-rotor automatic movement recognized by enthusiasts for its simplified and highly refined construction.
