NORWAY. Speciedaler, 1670. Christiania Mint. Christian V. NGC AU

Exceptionally Pedigreed, Very Rare and Highly Attractive NORWAY. Speciedaler, 1670. Christiania Mint. Christian V. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. Dav-3651; KM-99; Hede-27A; Sieg-51.1; NMD-56; Delzanno-58; Schou-12; Bruun-10089. Weight: 28.77 gms. Mintmaster: Frederik Grüner (FG). Engraver: Jonas Olufsen Lunder. This handsome early specie type, which does not yet bear the king's motto on the reverse, has always been considered unattainable for a collector; of both varieties combined (the date in the legend and the date by the shield), only four examples are known, this being the sole specimen in private hands. The specimen boasts a sublime, unbroken provenance from the late 18th century to the present day, having formed part of six of the most renowned Scandinavian numismatic collections. Furthermore, as this is a choice specimen with a beautifully iridescent toning, considerable mint luster, and sharp details, it will inevitably attract the utmost attention in the auction room. Estimate: €30,000 - €40,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale - 1922). Ex: August Christian Mohr Collection (Copenhagen - 1847) Lot # 1324. Ex: C. D. von Kreber Collection (Copenhagen - 1841) Lot # 2161. Ex: C. F. Schubart (Copenhagen - 1831) Lot # 1369.
