Detailed and Monumental Triple Speciedaler of Legendary Rarity NORWAY. 3 Speciedaler, 1658. Christiania Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU Details--Obverse Scratched. KM-39a; Dav-3599; Hede-28; Sieg-35; NMD-25; Schou-6; Delzanno-26; Aagaard-53.1; Bruun-9762. Mintmaster: Frederik Grüner (FG). Engraver: Matthias Först (?). A monumental piece, retaining considerable original luster and displaying excellent details on both sides. Despite a scratch in the left obverse field, the surfaces are otherwise almost entirely free of the contact marks so commonly found on such a hefty coin. All Norwegian Triple Speciedalers from the reign of Frederik III rank among the legendary rarities. Of the two registered examples from 1658, this is the only specimen in private hands, and the uniquely known example struck from this die combination. Estimate: €60,000 - €80,000. Provenance: From the L.E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Joh. G. Guildal Collection (Private Sale - 1918); later published by the Danish Numismatic Society as item 1338 in his collection.
