Piece of sporting motorcycle history: a Norton Manx from circa 1953 (Frame series 48800). This example hails from the golden era of the introduction of the “short stroke” engine, mounted on the legendary Featherbed frame. Motorcycle condition The motorcycle has undergone a high-level conservative and mechanical restoration. The twin-cam engine has been overhauled in accordance with the original specifications of the era. The cycle parts and bodywork (tank and fairings) are in excellent condition, ready to be displayed in a collection or used in historic events (re-enactments, Historic GPs). Sidecar: Together with the motorcycle is included an authentic period racing sidecar. The sidecar is currently awaiting restoration, representing a unique opportunity for an enthusiast to bring back on track or on display a complete competition outfit with an invaluable original patina. Year: 1953 Model: 30M (11M = 500cc Twin-Cam) Frame: Featherbed (Series 48800) Motorcycle condition: Restored (Very good) Sidecar condition: To restore (complete and authentic) The Norton Manx is renowned for its handling and for its successes at the Tourist Trophy. The Sidecar: Authentic Watsonian Sidecar, the “torpedo” trailer that dominated sidecar racing in the 1950s. The Series C frame confirms its belonging to Watsonian’s specialist production of that era. The sidecar is preserved and to be restored, offering the perfect complement to a motorcycle already perfect. The combination with an original sidecar from the same period makes this lot extremely rare on the international market.
