Native American, Northern Plains or Plateau, ca. 1900–1930 CE. A pair of hand-sewn moccasins of soft brain-tanned hide, each vamp beaded with stylized floral motifs in glass seed beads: bell-shaped blossoms, petal-edged leaves, small roundels, and curling tendrils. The beads are sewn flat in the two-needle overlay technique. Each motif is filled in sky blue, green, cobalt, pink, and red, then outlined in white, which sets the designs off against the pale hide. The cuffs are bound with red wool trade cloth, one lined with purple cloth, and the tongues are fastened with hide ties. The floral designs reflect the reservation period, when beadworkers increasingly adopted floral imagery drawn from trade goods and intertribal exchange. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 206153
