signed and dated 'Norbert Goeneutte/1890' l.l., oil on panel, 22 x 16cm; framed 34 x 28cm, With Ohana Gallery, London. Norbert Goeneutte occupies an important position among the painters and printmakers who chronicled the transformation of Paris in the late 19th century. A pupil of Isidore Pils and a regular exhibitor at the Paris Salon, Goeneutte developed a distinctive style that combined academic draughtsmanship with the immediacy and atmospheric effects associated with Impressionism. His close friendship with Renoir further connected him to the avant-garde artistic circles of the period. Goeneutte's Parisian scenes, depicting boulevards, cafés, gardens and everyday inhabitants, are particularly notable for their vivid evocation of modern urban life and the changing character of the French capital. Condition Report, Condition Report, The paint has been thinly applied in places. The painting has a layer of clear, glossy varnish which has some slight discolouration in the lower right.
