All auctions / Carpets, Rugs & Textile / No Reserve - Palace-Size Antique Oushak Carpet, Western Anatolia
Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs No Reserve - Palace-Size Antique Oushak Carpet, Western Anatolia, circa 1900 Size: 24 ft 7 in x 16 ft 3 in (7.49 m x 4.95 m) Provenance: Collection of late notable London and New York dealer An extraordinary palace-size Oushak carpet whose exceptional dimensions are matched by the broad drawing and relaxed elegance associated with western Anatolian weaving. Oushak carpets achieve their beauty through expansive floral forms, open spacing and expressive hand-drawn ornament rather than minute workshop precision. At nearly twenty-five feet long, this example was conceived for a grand architectural setting and can anchor a ballroom, reception room, hotel, gallery or major residence. Offered without reserve, it is one of the most impressive decorative opportunities in the auction. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #460 is in fair condition. The pile is predominantly low and even, with scattered areas of re-piled pile throughout. The rug has been professionally reduced in width. Both ends are complete and securely finished, and the sides are securely finished. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready.
