All auctions / Carpets, Rugs & Textile / No Reserve - Large Antique Amritsar Carpet, North India, circa 1900
Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs No Reserve - Large Antique Amritsar Carpet, North India, circa 1900 Size: 17 ft x 11 ft (5.18 m x 3.35 m) Provenance: Collection of late notable London and New York dealer A distinguished large-format Amritsar carpet displaying the expansive drawing and decorative refinement associated with northern Indian workshop weaving. Amritsar carpets often adapt Persian floral traditions through an Indian sense of scale, color,r and rhythm. Their broad compositions and softly balanced palettes made them especially successful in grand European and American interiors around the turn of the twentieth century. Its well-proportioned dimensions make this example suitable for a substantial dining room, living room, gallery or reception space.
