Rare handmade antique Dutch silver snuff/pill box. The box is particularly beautiful in shape and is very detailed, handmade. The box is equipped with a nicely perfectly closing hinged lid with a tab that makes it easier to open the lid. The lid is manually adorned with a stunning old Dutch relief scene. The scene is a work of art in itself and consists of a hand-driven depiction of a couple in traditional clothing in a horse-drawn carriage. The scene is intricately made and equipped with many charming details such as the couple in traditional dress, the horse in harness, the man with reins in his hand, the whip on the side, a worked surface and much more (see photos). Additionally the rim of the box is fully decorated with floral decorations. The box is Dutch-tested and marked with Dutch silver hallmarks: fineness mark the old sword-type. This old model sword-type mark was used from 1906 to 1953 and was struck in both the first and second grade silver. Also bearing the master mark DS with a Dahlia between, from the well-known Dutch silversmiths C. Schoorl & J.A. Dal (f.a. Dahlia). These silversmiths worked as silversmiths in Amsterdam from 1920 to 1958. The box has a diameter of 4.2 cm and a weight of 22.00 grams. Overall, for its age of between 68 and 106 years, it is in particularly beautiful condition (a small unobtrusive faint dent in the lower edge of the back). This stunning, rare handmade antique Dutch silver snuff/pill box is, due to its elegant shape, the detailed workmanship and the beautiful decoration, a striking and particularly decorative object. The box has an exceptionally chic appearance and is a sight to behold. The lid closes perfectly, so also very nice and very suitable to use as a pill box.
