Heavy Bronze Art Medal – Niel Steenbergen (1911–1997) – Ø 10.5 cm Description An imposing and heavily cast bronze medal / plaque by the renowned Dutch sculptor and medalist Niel Steenbergen (1911–1997). Steenbergen is known for his powerful, expressive reliefs with a recognizable, almost medieval form language. This medal, often referred to as the "Bronnen-penning" or "The gift is the foundation for friendship", shows on the front two stylized figures in historical attire jointly bearing two monumental buildings. Around runs the characteristic edge inscription: "THE GIFT IS THE FOUNDATION FOR FRIENDSHIP". The reverse features a sleek, modernist geometric logo (the stylized letter combination/logo) with the inscription JPA, indicating a commission issued by a construction or real estate company. The piece has a beautiful, well-aged dark brown patina with subtle greenish accents in the deeper areas. A splendid sculptural collectible for lovers of postwar Dutch medal art, architectural history, and the oeuvre of Niel Steenbergen.
