Offered for sale: A beautiful and 100% original copper engraving from 1649 by the world-famous master cartographer Joan Blaeu. This folio page comes directly from the legendary town atlas "Toonneel der Steden van de Vereenighde Nederlanden" (Theatre of the Towns of the United Netherlands). Key Features: Featured Towns: Detailed bird's-eye view maps/plans of Slooten (Sloten), Ylst (IJlst), Worcum (Workum), and a beautiful panoramic view of Hinloopen (Hindeloopen) seen from the Zuiderzee. Year of Publication: 1649 (First edition). Technique: Copper engraving on authentic hand-made laid paper, uncoloured (black & white as originally published). Verso (Reverse side): Features the original historical Dutch text ("Beschryving van Slooten..."). Format: Original folio size. Condition Report: The engraving itself (the printed area) is in good, sharp, and clean condition with strong print impressions. The outer margins (the edges of the paper) show some wear, minor spotting, and small tears due to the passage of time (please view the photos carefully for a full impression). This piece is ideal for professional framing with a passe-partout mat, which will beautifully cover the outer margins and highlight the crisp maps.
