Aquamarine has a deep symbolic relationship with Christianity, mainly linked to purity, divine protection, and the figure of Jesus Christ. Historically and theologically, it is associated with the following elements: • The Apostle Saint Thomas: In medieval Christian tradition of natals stones and apostles, aquamarine was assigned to Saint Thomas. It was said that the gem imitated the apostle's qualities, who sailed by sea to preach the faith in India, reflecting the color of the ocean and a spirit of steadfastness. • Symbol of Jesus Christ and purity: Due to its transparency and light blue color, early Christians compared aquamarine to the pure waters of baptism. It represents the purity of the soul, moderation, and the celestial light that Christ brought to the world. • The Virgin Mary: Because of its blue tone, evoking the sky and the sea, aquamarine is frequently used in jewelry and sacred art dedicated to the Virgin Mary as a symbol of her fidelity, grace, and celestial nature. • Stone of Christian sailors: During the Middle Ages, Christian sailors wore this gem cut or as an amulet to invoke God's protection against storms, believing that the divine creation of the stone calmed both mystical and physical waters.
