Musical world globe with box or cigarette case, Japan, 1970s–1980s Original decorative tabletop object manufactured in Japan during the 1970s or 1980s, conceived as a combination of an ornamental globe, a container box or cigarette case, and a music mechanism. The piece reflects the taste for functional accessories with elegant design characteristic of Japanese production in the second half of the 20th century. The main element is a spherical globe made of metal with a satin-silver finish, decorated with a simplified representation of the continents in contrasting gold. The sphere opens horizontally into two halves via a folding mechanism that provides access to an interior compartment intended for storing small objects, cigarettes, or personal accessories. The globe is supported by a polished brass frame that reproduces the axis and meridian of classic geographic globes. The warm tones of the brass harmonize with the silver surface of the sphere, contributing to a refined aesthetic inspired by mid- to late-20th-century modern design. The cylindrical base houses a wind-up music box mechanism, discreetly integrated into the structure. This component makes the piece a multifunctional object where decorative value, practical utility, and the sonic appeal of Japanese music boxes from the period converge. Its design blends industrial modernism influences and the space-age aesthetics so popular in the seventies, standing out for its clean lines, metallic surfaces, and cosmopolitan character. Due to its materials, functionality, and meticulous craftsmanship, this musical globe is a representative example of Japanese decorative objects intended for the international market during the second half of the 20th century, appreciated by both collectors and vintage design enthusiasts. Insured shipping and careful packaging.
