An important aspect of illusion cards is their design: These cards were often created as so-called “transformation cards,” in which the main figure was skillfully integrated into a realistic French card design. The decks feature the following figures: a dog as a chimney sweep, a donkey as a scholar, an ibex as a hunter, a lion as a soldier/officer, a hare as a housewife, a pig as a househusband, a monkey as a vain man, an elephant as a gentleman, and a bull also as a gentlema. With an old, presumably original, paper envelope bearing the handwritten inscription (these are no longer preserved).uremberg 1888.
