Murano - Guerrieri Murano - Ashtray - Glass - Murano ashtray

Vintage Murano uranium glass bowl A striking mid-century Italian art glass bowl, produced in the Murano glassmaking tradition around the 1950s–1960s. The bowl has a sculptural, organic form with a beautifully irregular, scalloped rim. Its vivid green glass gives the piece a particularly strong presence, while the flowing freeform silhouette is characteristic of the expressive approach to decorative glass developed by Murano glassmakers during the post-war period. The most remarkable feature is revealed under ultraviolet light: the uranium-containing glass fluoresces an intense, almost neon green. The accompanying UV photograph clearly demonstrates this spectacular reaction. The shape and construction are consistent with mid-20th-century Murano art glass. During the 1950s and 1960s, Murano manufacturers produced numerous sculptural bowls and ashtrays with organic, shell-like forms and strongly coloured glass. Comparable examples include green shell-form bowls attributed to Archimede Seguso, including examples with controlled bubble decoration, as well as uranium-green sommerso bowls associated with several Murano manufacturers. The exact manufacturer of this particular bowl cannot be confirmed because no original factory label or signature is visible. Archimede Seguso and Cenedese are possible stylistic comparisons, but the attribution remains unconfirmed. Similar uranium-green Murano pieces from this period are known from multiple manufacturers, making a definitive attribution without a label inappropriate. The green glass contains a uranium-bearing formulation which produces a strong fluorescent response under ultraviolet light. Under normal lighting the bowl appears as an attractive vivid green glass object; under UV illumination it transforms into a spectacular luminous green colour. This makes it particularly appealing to both Murano glass collectors and uranium-glass collectors. The freeform scalloped rim gives the bowl an almost floral or shell-like appearance. Rather than being perfectly symmetrical, the undulating edge creates an organic sculptural effect. The piece can be displayed as a decorative bowl, vide-poche, or simply as a small piece of collectible Murano art glass. Circa 1950–1960 This dating is consistent with comparable Murano sculptural and uranium-glass bowls from the post-war period. Similar examples are documented from the 1950s and 1960s. The bowl is offered in perfect conditions
