Globidens was about 6 m long and distinguished itself from other mosasaurs by lacking pointed teeth that it would have used to catch fish and other marine creatures such as octopuses or squids. Many of its nearly 40 teeth were round like golf balls and about the same size. Rather than protruding, they were embedded in the jaw, so only the upper part could be seen. Such a dentition proved ideal for crushing the thick shells of mollusks like clams or hard-shelled crabs. The front teeth were long and peg-shaped, and Globidens could use them to extract mollusks from the seafloor or pry them off rocks.
