Ancient mortar with ears carved from black marble, dating from the late 18th century, or perhaps the early 19th century. During this period, this sturdy vessel served as a kitchen tool to grind herbs and spices, or as an apothecary's mortar in a pharmacy to prepare remedies and ointments. The pouring spout facilitates precise transfer of liquids or ground powders. The cracked mortar has withstood the centuries and was restored long ago, which in no way detracts from the beauty of this historic object, nor from its use. Dimensions: 15.5 x 30 x 30 cm. Weight: 9.2 kg.
