Monumental Balinese female figure – marked PANAKUS BALI –...

A significant large Balinese sculpture, entirely hand-carved in hard wood, depicting an elegant female figure in traditional attire. The woman is shown in a poised, harmonious stance, with an ornate headdress, large circular earrings, a necklace and a ceremonial dress finely decorated with floral and geometric motifs. With one raised hand she supports an elaborately crafted traditional vessel, also fully carved and decorated. Particularly refined are the face, with a serene expression, the work on the hair, the jewelry and the costume, in which smooth surfaces alternate with numerous incised details. The figure rests on an integral base carved with vegetative motifs. Under the base is the important inscribed marking: “PANAKUS BALI” The wood presents a beautiful natural red-brown coloration, with patina developed over time. Weight: approximately 6.2 kg. Base width: approximately 18 cm. Height: 96 cm. Origin: Bali, Indonesia. Material: exotic hard wood carved. Mark: PANAKUS BALI engraved under the base.
