Moldavite is an extremely rare tektite formed from the impact of a meteorite that fell about 15 million years ago in the present-day Czech Republic, in the Moldau (Vltava) river basin region, which gave it its name. The heat of the impact melted the Earth's rock, was projected, then cooled in mid-air, giving this characteristic olive green hue and the unique striated textures that each stone possesses. It is found nowhere else on Earth. Moldavite is reputed for its strong power of inner transformation: it is associated with spiritual awakening, accelerated awareness, and the release of emotional blockages.
