This ancient and magnificent Manuscript of the “Forty Hadiths” by al-Nawawi A remarkable manuscript testifying to devotional practices in the Islamic world in the eighteenth century and reflecting the ancestral artistic traditions of Islamic sciences. Across 44 pages, elegant Arabic calligraphy unfolds in deep black ink, while the sacred names of “Allah” and the Prophet “Muhammad” stand out in vibrant colors blending red, blue and gold, and all the major Hadith titles written in pure gold (see photos). This manuscript is distinguished in particular by its magnificent chromatic palette; this collection of invocations is protected by a traditional Moroccan brown leather binding. It is a piece that deserves to be in a museum; an Arabic manuscript unavailable in this kind, and this elegant and gilded copy from the 18th century was written by the sheikh in 676 hijri / 1277 Christian, and comes from a private library.
