The jewellery of the 1960s is characterized by optimism and a belief in progress. After the organic shapes of the 1950s, a new desire for geometry returned in the decade of the race to the moon. Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings - the color of the decade was once again white, like the stars, often combined with blue, like the night sky. Occasionally we find other colored stones in primary colors alongside sapphires, but it is above all the cool sparkle of diamonds or pearls combined with white gold that makes the jewelry of this period so appealing. The settings of the designs break away from the solid, shiny yellow gold of late Art Deco and increasingly dissolve into a network of white gold rods. The filigree structures of space equipment, the antennas of Sputnik, but also the skeletal structures of the new skyscrapers may have been the inspiration here. It was no coincidence that a brooch with the name "Kosmos" won the prize for the jewel of the year in 1967. The brooch presented here reflects this taste in its appearance and has lost none of its modernity to this day. Its design allows for very different associations. The design is made up of circular segments arranged on different levels. Triangular elements with a matte finish protrude into the center and are set with diamonds that are subtly staggered in size. Is it a view into an icy cave into which glittering crystals protrude - or even a distant planet? A total of around 1.42 carats of high-quality diamonds are used, which together with the white gold reflect the incident light. This gives the piece of jewelry a futuristic touch. The brooch is in very good condition and is a typical piece of jewelry from around 1970, made in the workshop of Heinz Wipperfeld, Berlin.
