Michail Todorov (Ukrainian, 1915-1997), Bathing Young Man

Board 14 x 10 in.; Frame dimensions 17 1/4 x 13 1/4 in. www.Sothebys.com, November 9, 2001 Acquired from the above Michail Dmitryevich Todorov was born in 1915 in Velykyi Buialyk, Ukraine, and became a recognized Ukrainian painter associated with Odesa and the Black Sea region. He studied at the Ilya Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, graduating in 1949. That same year, he joined the faculty of the Odesa Art School, where he taught until 1957. Todorov received significant recognition during his career and was named an Honored Art Professional of Ukraine in 1967. His paintings frequently depict landscapes, coastal views, and scenes of everyday life, reflecting his close association with Odesa and the surrounding region. Todorov remained connected to Odesa throughout much of his career and died there in 1997. Slight bowing to the board, light surface grime.
