ude in Sheep – Unique Cyanotype Original photograph by Michael Joseph, Wiltshire, 1970s Cyanotype by Justine Joseph, Dordogne, 2026 Unique work – 1/1 A wonderfully surreal image from Michael Joseph’s celebrated Nude in Sheep series, transformed into a unique handmade cyanotype. Standing alone at the centre of an enormous flock, the nude female figure raises her arms towards her head while hundreds of sheep crowd around her. The scale is extraordinary: at first glance the eye sees a landscape filled with animals, then suddenly discovers the solitary human figure at its heart. The composition is both humorous and strangely poetic — a tiny human presence surrounded by a great sea of wool. This unique cyanotype was handmade by Justine Joseph in the Dordogne sunshine in 2026, using an original image from her father’s photographic archive. The cyanotype process transforms the scene into intense Prussian and midnight blues, while the sheep become almost luminous against the dark landscape. The deep blue surrounding the original rectangular image is particularly effective here, giving the work an almost cinematic quality and emphasising the extraordinary geometry of the flock. Presented in a cream mount, providing a crisp contrast with the rich blue tones of the cyanotype. The reverse bears the Online Gallery / Authentic Print label. Photographer: Michael Joseph Cyanotype artist: Justine Joseph Original photograph: Wiltshire, 1970s Process: Handmade cyanotype Created: Dordogne, France, 2026 Edition: Unique work – 1/1 Presentation: Cream mount Condition: Excellent overall; variations in density, surface and tone are inherent to the handmade cyanotype process. A striking meeting of British photographic surrealism and a 19th-century printing process — and an unusual, completely unique interpretation of one of Michael Joseph’s most memorable images.
