[MEXICAN PHOTOGRAPHY]. — Body and Fruit. Photography Contest. Mexico City, La Bamba, 2000. Large square quarto, softcover with gray-green laminated cover, title printed on the front cover, lavishly illustrated with black-and-white and color photographs. Catalog published on the occasion of the “Body and Fruit” photography contest, dedicated to the visual, symbolic, and sensual relationships between the human body and fruit in Mexican photography. Jean-Claude Lemagny’s bibliography correctly lists the work under the title *Corps et fruit*, published in Mexico City by La Bamba in 2000, with texts by Jean-Claude Lemagny, José Antonio Rodríguez, and Alfonso Colorado; the BnF entry confirms these details. The book also offers an interesting historical and iconographic journey: 19th-century Mexican photographs, images of markets and fruit vendors, followed by a comparison with modern painting and photography. The reproduced pages notably feature works by Tina Modotti, Edward Weston, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Francisco de Zurbarán, and René Magritte, giving the catalog a scope that extends far beyond that of a simple competition anthology. The competition appears to have played a significant role in the early development of Mexican photography: photographer Nirvana Paz, for example, won first prize at *Cuerpo y Fruta* in 2001, an event organized by the French Embassy in Mexico and the Alliance Française; the exhibition subsequently toured Mexico and Paris. Condition: Good copy. Some scuffing, small scratches, and signs of wear on the glossy cover, with a slight dent on the right edge; interior is fresh and well-preserved.
