Beige ceramic oil lamp resting on a circular foot, the base is shaped like a flat cup with straight edges ending in a narrow, convex rim. The spout is pinched and slightly elongated. Clay-turned lamps, commonly called bowl lamps, are the earliest known. It is agreed that Mesopotamia is the place of origin and the Bronze Age the period of their development. This form spread across the eastern Mediterranean and endured for millennia. Dating: 1300 to 1200 BCE. Large dimensions: length 14.9 cm x width 14.5 cm Good condition - small chips Provenance: Private Dutch collection, formed between 1970 and 1974 by a collector working for the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and posted in North Africa. The seller can prove that the lot was legally obtained, provenance statement seen by Catawiki. Important information: The seller guarantees that they are authorized to sell/export this lot.
