Mercedes-Benz - 280 SE 3.5 - 1971

Mercedes-Benz - 280 SE 3.5 - 1971

IN HIGHLIGHT: • Registered with ASI as a vehicle of historical interest • Equipped with 3.5 V8 engine code 116.980 delivering 200 HP • Car with previous Swiss registration (plate: BE 322384) • Recent mechanical work already performed and delivery service included HISTORY/PANORAMA: The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 (W108 series) represents one of the high points of the Stuttgart luxury range from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. Designed under the direction of Paul Bracq, it is distinguished by its elegant lines and renowned build quality. This example, ASI-listed as a historic-interest vehicle with previous Swiss registration (plate BE 322384), is fitted with the prestigious V8 engine code 116.980. BODYWORK/PAINTWORK: The body presents a solid base for a partial restoration project. There are areas to address for localized rust around the right front headlamp surround, the floor of the trunk on the left side, and, to a lesser extent, on the right side, as well as light surface rust on the underside. Dents are noted on the right front wing and on the left rear wing. The chrome bumpers and grille are in good condition and only require polishing, while the trim along the doors and some worn seals should be replaced. The right front door latch requires adjustment as it does not engage perfectly. INTERIOR: The interior retains the original leather and fabric upholstery. The fabric portions of the front seats require localized restoration to preserve the original leather (already superficially cleaned), while the fabric on the rear seats shows wear consistent with age. The carpet on the floor needs thorough cleaning and the front mats should be replaced due to wear. The dashboard with wood and leather trim has cracks in the top leather area from sun exposure and some details need attention. The door panels are in good condition and require careful cleaning. MECHANICS: The V8 engine runs smoothly and the automatic transmission delivers a soft, seamless engagement. The car has seen recent maintenance, including installation of a new fuel pump, spark plug replacement, tank cleaning, and replacement of fuel lines from the tank to the engine. The vehicle will be delivered to the buyer with an additional service performed (engine oil and filter and air filter replacement). DOCUMENTS: Accompanying ASI registration and references to the previous Swiss registration.
