Merapu statue - to cast spells - Indonesia (No reserve price)

Collection of four figurines from Sumba Barat, Indonesia, of the Marapu religion/ethnic group. The four figurines come from a single family group, hence from a single household. The peculiarity of these four figurines is that all four have faces colored white, a typical sign of mourning in the Marapu ethnicity. The figurines were commonly kept in the communal kitchen area as a memory of the ancestors. The wood has a beautiful patina from handling, and some are finished with beads and textile and thread details. They come from the private collection of an anthropologist from Northern Italy who lived for decades in Indonesia. The photos are an integral part of the description. The figurines vary in height from about 17/18 cm down to about 9 cm.
