Background Information: This collection comprises six medieval bronze finger rings dating to the Crusader period, illustrating the wide variety of forms and decorative styles used between the 11th and 14th centuries. The group includes plain bezels, signet-style examples, rings with empty settings that once held glass or stone inlays, and finely decorated bands, reflecting the diversity of medieval jewellery worn across the eastern Mediterranean. Bronze finger rings of this type were worn by men and women as personal ornaments and, in some cases, as symbols of status, identity, or devotion. Rings with engraved bezels could serve as simple personal seals, while examples with stone settings offered an affordable alternative to precious jewellery. During the Crusader era, jewellery design was influenced by Western European, Byzantine, and Islamic artistic traditions, resulting in a rich variety of forms and decorative motifs. Each ring was cast in bronze using established medieval metalworking techniques and finished by hand through engraving, filing, or the addition of bezel settings. Such rings were produced by skilled craftsmen and circulated widely through local workshops and regional trade networks. Comparable examples have been recovered from Crusader castles, medieval settlements, and urban centres throughout the Levant, demonstrating their widespread use in everyday life. Dating to the High Middle Ages, this group provides an informative overview of medieval personal jewellery from the Crusader period. Together, these rings form a tangible connection to the medieval world, where such objects accompanied their owners in daily life and reflected the craftsmanship and cultural interactions of the eastern Mediterranean.
