This is a temple ring (or sleep ring), a piece of jewelry from the Middle Ages. It is made of bronze and has a crescent shape and a decorated end. This type of hair and head jewelry was worn between the 11th and 15th centuries. Dimensions: 9.6 x 9.0 x 0.3 cm Weight: 5.85 g Condition: intact - not conserved How to wear: Women braided these rings into the hair at the temple, or attached them to a textile or leather headband. This specific model is a so-called armband-shaped or crescent-shaped temple ring. Decorated end: The elegant, open-worked knob at the top served both as decoration and to securely anchor the piece in the hair or to the headband. The ridges just below the knob provide extra grip and texture to the bronze. Shipping method: this lot is excellently packed and shipped via DHL or UPS using Catawiki's smart shipping.
