Mawddach Graces - Nicholas Robertson

Mawddach Graces by Nicholas Robertson Painting 24.0 x 29.9 :: These females were standing on a seat watching the train barreling across the wooden railway viaduct spanning the estuary of the Afon Mawddach towards Barmouth. I distilled the background scene to a focus on these inquisitive figures. The painting has been used for the book cover of the Spanish edition of the award winning American author Siri Hustveldt's 'Mothers Fathers and Others' (Madres padres y demás) and published in Deutsche Vogue 2026. The work consists of a Rowney Cryla acrylic base coat of burnt orange over the gesso manufacturers finish. Opaque pigments have been used to lay down some areas also acting as undercoating for sections of the subject matter. Subsequent layers of acrylic paint have been applied in washes which has been thinned using Liquidex airbrush medium. This thin multiple layering of pigment allows for subtle tonal attributes and a degree of luminosity avoiding the usual flat acrylic finish. Acrylic medium on rolled canvas board is finished with a coat of Winsor & Newton Satin UV varnish. The varnish not only protects the painting but has a unifying effect. I suggest it would look its best with a frame that is at least 75mm or more wide. Narrow frames on large paintings have tendency to not sit well and have a habit of warping. :: Type: Painting Medium: Acrylic Style: Modern Subject: Figures & Portraits Width: 24.0 Height: 29.9 Depth: 0.6 Weight: 1 lbs Framed: no :: All art on Zatista is original and signed.
