Mattel - Barbie doll Exclusive - Ekaterina – Russian...

Exclusive, released in 2010 by Mattel, the Ekaterina doll belongs to the prestigious Barbie Fashion Model Collection (BFMC). Produced in only 3,500 copies worldwide, it is today highly sought after by collectors around the world. Its creation falls within a period when the major international fashion houses were fascinated by Russian aesthetics: Chanel, with its Paris–Moscow collection (2009), Dior, Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent all drew inspiration from brocades, chapkas, furs and theatrical silhouettes recalling imperial opulence. This vogue for Russia is echoed in the refinement of the Ekaterina doll, whose style directly evokes Russian elegance reinterpreted by haute couture. As a nod, her look may recall certain iconic jewelry and accessories, notably Chanel’s famous cuff bracelet. With its fiery red hair and a gold brocade ensemble accented with faux fur finishes, completed by lace-up ankle boots, gloves and a matching chapka, Ekaterina embodies the sophistication and prestige of the Silkstone line. The package will be shipped by DHL Express.
