The Baoulé masks are known in African art for the finesse of their features, a mouth protruding forward, half-closed eyes. The top of the mask is crowned with a headdress decorated with imposing braids. The Baoulé live in the southeast of Côte d'Ivoire. They are part of the Akan group. One can note that their craftsmanship is not intimidating. The living conditions of the Baoulé are certainly among the best in the country, and this is read on their serene masks and their sophisticated statuary. Contemporary Mask.
