We present to you the Marlen Collection Il David David is a Renaissance sculpture masterpiece carved in marble between 1501-1504 by Michelangelo and kept in the Galleria dell’Accademia in Florence. Widely regarded as a world sculpture masterpiece, it is one of Italy’s emblems: the work depicts the biblical hero at the moment he is about to confront Goliath. The hood and the shaft are in white celluloid with a silver band depicting David, who has always been considered, in art, the ideal of masculine beauty (just as Botticelli’s Venus is regarded as the canon of feminine beauty). The silver clip echoes the shape of a chisel: indeed, it was through constant hammering and chisel work that Michelangelo managed to preserve the elasticity of his hands until the last days of his life.
