Märklin H0 - 39777 - Model train motor car (1) - Kruckenberg's Rail Zeppelin, MFX with Full sound - DRG Example: Kruckenberg Rail Zeppelin with propeller propulsion. A legendary classic from the 1930s. Tested and working Digital MFX Front and rear lights 2 axles powered Aircraft technology on the rails In the 1920s, the air vehicle engineer Franz Kruckenberg, born in 1882 in Uetersen, had the vision of high-speed rail traffic with rail vehicles powered by propeller propulsion. The plan, executed by him based on lightweight aircraft construction, culminated on 21 June 1931 in a triumphant record run of his streamlined Rail Zeppelin, which at the time achieved the speed record for rail vehicles of 233 km/h, a record that would not be broken until 23 years later. During testing it became clear, however, that the propeller propulsion principle for rail vehicles was less well suited. Nevertheless, Kruckenberg, with these and the subsequent propeller-powered designs he developed, laid the foundation for modern lightweight high-speed train sets. Thus the Rail Zeppelin was and remains a legend to this day and a synonym for the rapid advances in rail vehicle technology, which today have reached their peak in high-speed traffic.
