Mario Silano (1973) - Alla luce della lanterna

Author: Mario Silano Title: In the Light of the Lantern Technique: Oil on canvas Dimensions: 40 x 30 A young woman, portrayed in a half-length within a snug interior, turns her gaze to a point just outside the scene. A lamp visible on the left edge introduces a warm light that caresses the face, highlighting the cheekbones, the contour of the nose, and the softness of the lips. The absorbed expression gives the portrait a narrative dimension, as if the figure had been captured during a moment of listening. Dark hair, gathered into two braids, is partially covered by a purple scarf. The same tone reappears in the shawl resting on the shoulders, enriched by blue borders and tiny decorative motifs. The blue dress and the wide, light sleeves create a balanced alternation of luminous and shadowed areas. Earrings and layered necklaces adorn the figure without drawing attention away from the face. The brown background, punctuated by wooden elements, envelops the protagonist in a domestic and silent atmosphere, enhancing the naturalness of the pose.
