Cramoysan paints her with tenderness and the surroundings with a loose, festive brush. Marcel Cramoysan (1915–2007), born in Étretat and a pupil of the Rouen Post-Impressionist Robert Antoine Pinchon, was a leading figure of the later École de Rouen. Best known for his Norman landscapes, he also painted circus and fairground scenes and rare portraits; ‘Le Tir forain’ belongs to that smaller, more intimate side of his work. A room in Étretat, the Espace Cramoysan, has honoured him since 2011. Signed at the lower right and titled and signed by the artist on the reverse. Offered unframed.
