MANUSCRIPT. — Letter of Roman citizenship granted to a certain Horatio Magalotto Nobili et Patritio Florentino, Romana civitate donando, on June 9, 1643. Small quarto, fawn morocco, border and interlacing bands framing the text, central panel adorned with fan motifs in the spandrels, coat of arms in the center gilded and inlaid with black (sable), green silk laces (contemporary Italian binding). Manuscript on vellum, calligraphed in gold and black; each page is framed by an elegant border featuring floral motifs, strawberries, butterflies, and painted birds; the first page is adorned with the recipient’s painted coat of arms. A very beautiful and richly decorated binding featuring a fan motif, the coat of arms of Horace Magaletto, and the motto “Libertas.” The scrollwork adorning the border is identical to that bordering the covers of Ughelli’s *Italia sacra* (Rome, 1644), featuring the coat of arms of Pope Urban VIII, reproduced in the *Legature papali* catalog (1977, no. 220, pl. CLIX). It also appears on the binding of a Roman edition ca. 1640, reproduced in Mirjam Foot’s catalog *Henry Davis Gift* (vol. III, no. 364). The seal is missing; the title page is slightly detached but still attached to the binding.
