The old stone bridge spans a shallow river whose stony foregrounds draw the eye into the landscape. For me this scene embodies a typical English landscape and transports me back to my homeland in my mind. The peaceful rural atmosphere with the grazing sheep the rolling hills and the building nestled within the landscape feels familiar and timeless. When painting this picture I focused particularly on the interplay of water stone and vegetation as well as the sense of depth. The warm tones of the river contrast with the cooler shades of green lending the picture a balanced tension. Signed lower right.
