This site is internationally renowned for its iron-bearing skarn deposits and for the iconic quality of its mineral samples. The piece shows a rich aggregate of magnetite crystals developing within a contrasting matrix. The magnetite crystals display well-defined octahedral geometric shapes and sharp edges, characterized by an intense ferrous-black color and a pronounced sub-metallic luster on the faces. Surrounding and providing a perfect chromatic and textural contrast to the dark crystals is a soft, pure white, compact talc matrix. The aesthetic combination between the geometric rigidity of the black magnetite and the light, velvety talc matrix makes this specimen a perfect display piece, as well as a historical testimony to one of the most important mining localities in the Western Alps.
