A fascinating edition of this work on domestic medicine, practical pharmacopoeia, and the transmission of therapeutic knowledge intended for a broad audience, particularly for families who must provide part of the routine care themselves in the absence of a doctor or pharmacist - Associated with Madame Marie de Maupeou, known as Madame Fouquet, this collection enjoyed wide diffusion and is part of a conception of medicine in which scholarly knowledge drawn from the medical tradition blends with popular recipes, plant-based preparations, animal and mineral substances, as well as practices inherited from daily experience - The term “charitable” present in the title expresses the fundamental ambition of the work, which is to place therapeutic knowledge within reach of those who need it and to provide means to relieve ordinary illnesses and accidents without relying systematically on costly or hard-to-obtain treatments - Madame Fouquet - The Charitable Remedies of Madame Fouquet - 1682 - Jean Certe - Approximately 476 pages. Good condition of the binding, work in its nineteenth-century half-basane, marbled covers, signs of wear, a few minor defects on the cover, heads and corners worn, speckled edges, smooth decorated spine, gilded title and author’s name - Good interior condition, occasional stains, beautiful vignette and bookplate H. Cazaux on the title page, pretty headbands, handsome drop cap, marbled endpapers in OK condition, good copy - Delivery service guaranteed within a few days -
