Louis Perrochon (1904-2008) - Floral Still Life Oil on panel - Unframed (height x width): 46 cm x 38 cm - With frame (height x width): 57 cm x 49.5 cm - Date: 1978 Louis Perrochon was born on August 24, 1904, in Bercher, in the Swiss canton of Vaud. Louis was a versatile Swiss painter, a pioneer of top-level sport, and a military officer from the canton of Vaud. Louis was the son of a stationmaster and after his schooling in Lausanne and Zurich he began his career in education. Louis died at the exceptionally advanced age of 104 on November 14, 2008, in Ecublens. Although Louis for decades played a leading role in Swiss sport — he was, among other things, a gymnastics inspector, a member of the Swiss Sports Commission, and a representative at the 1960 Rome Olympic Games — his artistic career ran as a common thread throughout. The essence of Louis’s life and work: * Artistic style: From 1923 he built up a substantial body of thousands of watercolors and oil paintings. His work largely consisted of plein air maritime scenes, lakes, and Swiss landscapes. * Dual career: In addition to painting, he worked in education and was a key figure in Swiss sport. He served as a gymnastics inspector and official during the 1960 Olympic Games in Rome. * Legacy: His paintings were very successful at exhibitions in Lausanne and Payerne. His official documents and estate are kept in the Cantonal Archives of Vaud.
