Lot 91 - A rare Japanese finely embroidered silk panel

Finely worked in coloured silk threads, depicting an elegant still-life composition of chrysanthemums, morning glories and other flowers arranged in a decorated vase, alongside ornamental rocks, a bronze incense burner and a basket of fruit. The upper section incorporates two rectangular Yuzen-birodo (友禪ビロード) velvet paintings, depicting a misty mountainous landscape and a traditional Japanese temple complex, respectively, mounted against a hangin scroll with textile ground. The lower velvet painting signed 英昇 (Eishō), with a red seal mark reading 西京 (Saikyō, an alternative historical name for Kyoto). Framed and glazed. Frame dimensions: 65 × 65 cm.
