Longines La Grande Classique L4.908.4 – Automatic – circa 36 mm – caliber L591.2 – silver guilloché dial – Roman numerals An elegant Longines La Grande Classique Automatic, reference L4.908.4, made in fully stainless steel with the characteristic very slim and classic styling of the La Grande Classique collection. This piece features a particularly beautiful silver-toned dial with a fine, wavy guilloché pattern that extends from the center across the full dial. The black Roman hour markers and slim dark hands provide a strong contrast and give the watch a timeless dress watch look. Via the transparent case back, the automatic Longines L591.2 movement is visible. The watch is paired with an original finely linked Longines stainless steel bracelet with a signed butterfly clasp. ────────────────── Basic information Brand: Longines Collection: La Grande Classique de Longines Reference: L4.908.4 Estimated year of manufacture: Circa 2005–2012 Movement: Longines caliber L591.2 Movement type: Automatic mechanical Functions: Hours and minutes Second hand: Not present Date: Not present Case diameter: Circa 36 mm Case material: Stainless steel Case finish: High-gloss polished Dial: Silver/white with a fine guilloché pattern Hour markers: Black Roman numerals Crystal: Sapphire crystal Back: Transparent case back with view of the movement Bracelet: Original Longines stainless steel link bracelet Clasp: Original Longines butterfly/clasp Crown: Signed Longines crown Wrist circumference current bracelet: Circa 17.5–18 cm according to the supplied size photo Country of origin: Switzerland ────────────────── Important details Dial: Silver-colored with a very fine concentric/wavy guilloché pattern Hour markers: Classic black Roman numerals Hands: Two slim dark hands for hours and minutes Functions: Deliberately minimalist design without second hand and without date Logo: LONGINES with the winged hourglass logo below 12 o’clock Inscription: AUTOMATIC above 6 o’clock Dial bottom: SWISS Case: Very slim, round polished stainless steel case Lugs: Characteristic minimalist La Grande Classique bracelet attachment Crown: Small signed Longines crown Back: Transparent viewing window Movement: Longines L591.2 Automatic Bracelet: Finely linked original Longines stainless steel bracelet Clasp: Signed Longines butterfly/clasp ────────────────── Production year estimate An exact production year cannot be reliably determined from the provided photos. There is a number visible on the back, but it is not clearly legible enough in the photos to responsibly assign an exact production year. Based on the reference L4.908.4, the La Grande Classique variant, and the Longines L591.2 caliber used, I estimate this piece dates from approximately 2005–2012. This dating should therefore be regarded as an informed estimate, not a guaranteed production year. ────────────────── Case The case is finished in polished stainless steel and has the characteristic shape of the La Grande Classique series. Longines designed this collection around an exceptionally slim and elegant case profile. Instead of conventional, clearly protruding lugs, the case runs almost completely around, with the bracelet attached at compact lugs. The diameter is about 36 mm, giving the watch a classic dress watch size. Because of the thin bezel, the dial appears relatively large compared to the case diameter. The entire top of the case and bezel has a high-gloss polished finish. In the detail photos, there are light superficial scratches and normal signs of wear. Around the crown and on the side of the case there are a few slightly more noticeable small scratches. However, there are no heavy dents or major damage visible. ────────────────── Dial The dial is one of the most distinctive parts of this watch. The silver/white background features a very fine wavy guilloché pattern. The lines radiate from the center outward and create a striking optical effect depending on viewing angle and light. As a result, the dial can look almost pure white in some photos, while from another angle the relief is much more pronounced. The hours are indicated by elongated black Roman numerals. These are intentionally very fine and suit the elegant character of the watch. Below 12 o’clock are the LONGINES inscription and the famous winged hourglass logo. Above 6 o’clock is AUTOMATIC, and at the very bottom of the dial is SWISS. The dial on the supplied photos looks particularly neat. There are no obvious stains, discolorations, or damage visible. ────────────────── Hands and time display This edition features a particularly minimalist time display. The watch only has hour and minute hands. A central second hand is absent, and there is no date window. The two very slim dark hands provide a clear contrast with the light guilloché dial. This simple two-hand configuration strongly contributes to the classic and formal character of the La Grande Classique. ────────────────── Movement Type: Automatic mechanical Caliber: Longines L591.2 Frequency: 28,800 A/h Functions in this edition: Hours and minutes In the back side photo, the designation L591.2 is clearly visible on the movement. Through the round transparent window in the case back, a large portion of the mechanical movement can be viewed. The movement features decorative finishing and Longines lettering. The automatic rotor winds the watch as it is worn by the motion of the wrist. ────────────────── Timegrapher measurement The watch was tested with a timegrapher. In the supplied photo the following values are visible: Rate deviation: -17 seconds per day Amplitude: 235° Beat error: 0.3 ms Frequency: 28,800 A/h Lift angle setting: 52.0° The measured beat error of 0.3 ms is relatively modest. The measured rate deviation of about -17 seconds per day at the time of testing means the watch was running behind during this measurement. Amplitude was measured at 235 degrees. A timegrapher measurement is always a snapshot. Actual running can change depending on, among other things, the position of the watch, the level of winding, temperature, and wearing conditions. The stated values should therefore not be considered a guarantee of daily accuracy. ────────────────── Back The back has a polished stainless steel finish with a central round transparent window. Through this window the automatic Longines L591.2 caliber is visible. Around the window are several attachment points/screws and various engraved markings. The polished case back shows light superficial signs of wear consistent with normal use. No heavy damage is visible in the photos. ────────────────── Crown The crown is relatively small, in keeping with the slim profile of the case. The crown has a grooved edge for grip when setting the time and is externally adorned with the Longines winged hourglass logo. In the detail photo there are some light signs of wear around the crown and adjacent area of the case. The crown itself otherwise appears neat and fitting for the watch. ────────────────── Bracelet The watch is equipped with an original Longines stainless steel bracelet with a large number of small links. This finely linked construction suits the elegant character of the La Grande Classique and ensures that the bracelet drapes smoothly around the wrist. The bracelet is fully in silver-colored stainless steel and combines different polished surfaces, which reflect nicely in the light. The connection to the case is characteristic for the La Grande Classique and forms almost a single whole with the slim case. In the photos there are light superficial signs of wear, but the bracelet generally looks very well cared for. ────────────────── Clasp The bracelet features an original Longines butterfly/clasp. On the clasp both LONGINES and the winged hourglass logo are clearly visible. Because of the butterfly mechanism, the clasp remains relatively compact in the closed position and the elegant look of the bracelet is hardly interrupted. Also the clasp shows only light superficial signs of wear. ────────────────── Wrist size In the supplied size photo the watch is shown around a wrist size cone. Based on this, the current bracelet configuration seems suitable for a wrist circumference of about 17.5–18 cm. The exact maximum wrist size may vary somewhat depending on the position of the clasp and any removable or removed links. ────────────────── Condition Case: Neat used condition with light superficial scratches and signs of wear. Bezel: Polished bezel in neat condition with a few fine signs of wear. Dial: Very neat silver/white guilloché dial with no noticeable damage. Roman numerals: Intact and neat. Hands: Neat condition with clear contrast against the dial. Crystal: Appears clear with no obvious major damage. Crown: Original-looking signed Longines crown with light signs of wear. Back: Transparent case back with normal light signs of wear. Movement: Longines L591.2 Automatic visible through the case back. Bracelet: Original Longines stainless bracelet in neat used condition. Clasp: Original signed Longines butterfly clasp. Technical measurement: -17 s/d, 235° amplitude, 0.3 ms beat error at 28,800 A/h. ────────────────── Included Longines La Grande Classique Automatic reference L4.908.4 Original Longines stainless steel link bracelet Original Longines butterfly/clasp Presentation box as shown in the supplied photos Original papers, warranty card or certificates are not visible in the supplied photos and are therefore not listed as present. ────────────────── Overall condition An elegant and especially classic Longines La Grande Classique Automatic with a beautiful silver/white guilloché dial, black Roman numerals, and a fully stainless steel construction. The watch stands out primarily due to its very slim case construction and minimalist two-hand configuration. The absence of a date window and second hand keeps the dial particularly calm, while the fine wavy guilloché pattern provides much visual depth. Cosmetically, the watch appears in neat used condition based on the photos. The high-gloss polished case shows light signs of wear, with some more noticeable traces around the crown. The dial and crystal, however, look very well maintained. The original finely linked Longines bracelet and signed butterfly clasp are also present. The automatic Longines L591.2 caliber is visible through the transparent case back. During the supplied timegrapher test, a rate deviation of -17 seconds per day, an amplitude of 235°, and a beat error of 0.3 ms were measured. These values are a momentary snapshot and do not guarantee daily accuracy.
