Öl auf Leinwand. 90 x 120 cm. Rahmen, HxB: 95/126 cm. Unten rechts in roter Farbe signiert: "Leippert". In einfachem, passendem Holzrahmen. | LEIPPERT, JÜRGEN (1944) “Varieté” 1983 Oil on canvas. 90 × 120 cm. Framed, H × W: 95 × 126 cm. Signed in red on the lower right: “Leippert.” Signed and dated in black on the reverse of the canvas: “Leippert Nov. 83.” This large-format composition offers a fascinating, theatrical glimpse into a lively variety or theater scene. Framed by suggested red curtains at the sides, a multi-figure scene unfolds within a dynamic interplay of music, performance, and illusion. On the left, a pianist is seated at the piano, while in the center and on the right, further performers and figures are depicted in intimate and expressive interaction. The scene is crowned in the upper third of the painting by two large, mask-like faces, which hover above the action like theatrical symbols of comedy and tragedy. With his characteristic fiery palette and a free, expressive brushwork, Leippert masterfully captures the fleeting magic and dramatic lighting of the stage world. The work, dated 1983, is a representative example of the narrative and figurative power of the artist’s work during the 1980s. Very good original condition. The colors display exceptional luminosity and dynamic, impasto brushwork. No visible restorations or damage. Presented in a simple, appropriate wooden frame.
