Lee Krasner, Attributed/Style of (American, 1908-1984): July 4th (Abstract Nude Composition). Oil on canvas, dedicated to Aaron verso, unframed. Lenore "Lee" Krasner was an American abstract expressionist painter, with a strong specialty in collage. She was married to Jackson Pollock. Although there was much cross-pollination between their two styles, the relationship somewhat overshadowed her contribution for some time. 25 x 18 inches canvas. John McWhinnie, New York, USA; North Carolina Estate, USA. Very good condition overall; scattered craquelure throughout; canvas is slightly loose on stretcher; canvas loss/ holes at the edge of all four corners; pinhole areas of paint loss in upper left quadrant; small area of chalky residue in the same zone; small area of retouching apparent upper left quadrant; taking around edges is new, replacing old staples. The combination term Attributed/In The Style of is used for artworks which show significant possibility of authenticity, combined with an element of doubt. It is most often used on works bearing the names of artists whose work has historically been the subject of forgeries. NOTE: If documentation is not listed, the lot is sold without documents.
