Le Tallec - Servicio de café de 7 piezas con bandeja

The present set is a high-end creation from Atelier Le Tallec, featuring a botanical, biomorphic, and avant-garde decorative style on a black background, aligned with the Mid-Century aesthetic sensibility. Founded by Camille Le Tallec, trained at the École du Louvre, its Atelier established itself in Paris as a reference for Limoges porcelain painted entirely by hand, notable for the exceptional quality of its decorations. During the postwar period and the early 1950s, the Atelier developed a production marked by artistic freedom and avant-garde character, incorporating new surrealist and biomorphic-inspired designs into its repertoire of classical inspiration. These innovative limited-edition creations, produced through demanding craftsmanship, achieved a distinguished international profile among collectors of high-quality porcelain. DESCRIPTION: This set faithfully narrates the technical mastery and high-art decorative tradition of Le Tallec, framed within the complex technique of the "Continuous Dark Enamel Background" (fond noir intense). It consists of the hand-applied dense, high-gloss vitreous glaze conceived as an abyssal space where the motifs seem to float. Scientific literature and the firm’s printed catalog raisonn? — Atelier Le Tallec: Hand Painting Limoges Porcelain, authored by researchers Keith and Thomas Waterbrook-Clyde (Schiffer Publishing) — officially classifies these decorations under the technical designation of "Fleurs sur fond noir" (Flowers on a black background), an artist’s pattern characterized by abstract and biomorphic botanical motifs that break with traditional floral symmetry. PAINTED BY HAND, LOT COMPOSITION, AND DATING The set is entirely hand-decorated in the Le Tallec workshops in Paris. It presents a botanical and expressionist avant-garde aesthetic where each element shows individual variations in the pictorial design, blending stylized exotic flowers with filaments and leaves unified by a rich palette of very vivid opaque colors (pink, turquoise, yellow, orange, and red) and precise silhouettes that prevent the dark glaze from dulling the polychromy. The cups, moreover, feature handles and lip-edge detailing highlighted with hand-applied gold, in stark contrast to the black background. The Atelier Le Tallec traditionally used gold in its gilding work, including liquid 24-karat gold in certain decorative elements of its production. In this set, the gilding on the handles and rims is preserved with the characteristic bright finish of this technique. • 1 Tray: code AA / painter AM = Year: 1954 (first half) Inscribed inside its blue monogram with the double letter code "AA,” placing the central decoration of the piece in the first half of 1954 and inaugurating the workshop’s second chronological series. Artistically, this tray is the monumental piece that acts as the central axis and support for the coffee service. The pictorial decoration unfolds off-center on the black background, displaying two large surreal hybrid vegetations formed by stylized petals and sinuous filaments that recall marine morphologies or organic veining. • 5 Coffee cups, demitasse type: code Z / painter AM = Year: 1953 (second half). They bear inside their blue monogram the code letter "Z" representing the end of the first simple alphabetic series, dating these pieces precisely to the second half of 1953. Artistically, the fantastical botanical motif adapts to the curved contour of the porcelain body. Each cup features an elegant handle in the shape of a classic bow and the lip edge, both highlighted with hand-applied gold, creating a radical metallic contrast with the black surface. • 1 Saucer: code Z / painter AM = Year: 1953 (second half). Inscribed inside its blue monogram the code letter "Z" representing the end of the first simple alphabetic series, dating these pieces precisely to the second half of 1953. Artistically, the pictorial decoration with floating organic filaments unfolds off-center just like the beautiful tray. AUTHORITY, AUTHENTICITY, and RARITY: The set shares the work of the same craftsman, and the chronology reveals that the service was completed in two successive halves of the workshop: • Hand Attribution: All pieces are signed on the bottom by the blue monogram with the initials "A.M.,” corresponding to the master decorator officially responsible for executing this pattern. Painter AM ensured perfect chromatic continuity of the abyssal black and the density of the pigments between both periods in both the 1953 cups and saucer and the 1954 tray. • Authenticity: All pieces are signed Le Tallec à Paris Atelier Le Tallec à Paris • Le Tallec sets from this period with a black background and polychrome biomorphic decoration are not common on the specialist market.
