Le Klint - Kaare Klint - Table lamp - Model 306 “Kip Lamp” - Brass

LE KLINT – Kaare Klint – Model 306 ‘Kip Lamp’ – table lamp / wall lamp – brass. A distinctive and iconic piece of Danish design: the original LE KLINT Model 306, designed in 1945 by the influential Danish architect and furniture designer Kaare Klint (1888–1954). Model 306 is a beautiful example of Kaare Klint's functional design philosophy. The lamp combines a sculptural brass construct with the characteristic white pleated paper shade for which the Danish LE KLINT is world-famous. Ingeniously multifunctional design One of the most remarkable features of Model 306 is the ingenious construction. The curved brass arm forms an elegant loop and features the distinctive black ribbed handle section. A slender brass rod runs downward from the center, finished with the characteristic teardrop element. The lamp is designed to be used in multiple ways. Due to the construction it can function as both a table lamp and a wall lamp, and the lamp’s position can be adjusted to direct the light. Here form and function come together in typically Danish fashion: no superfluous decoration, but a technically well-considered construction that also forms a striking sculptural object. Kaare Klint Kaare Klint is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Danish design and had a major influence on the development of what would later be internationally known as Danish Modern. His designs are characterized by functionality, balanced proportions, high-quality materials, and respect for traditional craftsmanship. As a teacher and designer, Klint also exerted a strong influence on later generations of Danish designers. The LE KLINT Model 306 was designed in 1945 and belongs to the classic designs of the Danish lighting house. “Design Kaare Klint, 1945”, but production period notes “later vintage production, probably the 1980s.” Original LE KLINT Model 306 specimen Particularly important about this specimen is that the socket still bears the original factory label with the designation “LE KLINT 306.” This documents both the manufacturer and the model directly on the lamp. The design dates from 1945. The execution of the socket and the present label indicate that this specimen comes from a later vintage production period and not from the first years of production. The combination of warm brass, the black handle section, and the white pleated shade gives the lamp its unmistakable Scandinavian look. On LE KLINT's site you can still buy this lamp new for €1259, and a new shade can also be ordered on the site and costs €237.
